Sec. Lito Atienza’s Precious Gems. Poor yet over-flowing with talents, the voice and dance scholars of the Manila Dance and Cultural Arts Foundation, are more than grateful to their Daddy Lito for the free voice and dance lessons, their allowances, opportunities to show and polish their talents and for keeping their dreams alive.

The Manila Dance and Cultural Arts Foundation, Inc. was founded in the year 2000 as a special project of the City of Manila under the leadership of Mayor Jose L. Atienza Jr.  The foundation for the seven to 16 year-old gifted but marginalized children of Manila spearheaded promotion of cultural and educational programs. It became a venue for the enhancement of God-given talents in expressing creativity that builds character, self esteem, discipline, and hard work in showcasing talents in dancing and singing.

The foundation, which consists of two divisions: the Dance Company and the Chorale, catering to 200 children from the different depressed communities in Manila, is now being housed in a newly-built dance studio at the Museo Pambata at Roxas Blvd., Manila and has engaged the expertise of three of the country’s most distinguished dance professionals and choreographers —Luther Perez, the late Tony Fabella and Eddie Elejar as well as highly renowned voice/music instructors Lemuel dela Cruz and Nicanor Infante.

The children receive transportation allowance and extra honoraria for their performances.
Moreover, the scholars have been receiving numerous, awards and citations from all over the country and even abroad. The dance scholars were given a special achievement award during the Yi Lan International Folklore and Folkgames Festival in Taiwan while the chorale bagged the championship title in the recently concluded CCP Himig ng Pasko Competition.
